The McDonough Museum of Art is Youngstown State University's Center for Contemporary Ideas, Art, Education, and Community. It opened in 1991 after a generous gift from a local physician and avid art collector, Dr. John J. McDonough. The Museum features changing exhibits, performances, and lectures by regional, national, and international artists. It also functions as a public outreach center for the College of Creative Arts and Communication and the Department of Art in particular.

The key objectives of the museum are to:

  • act as a partner in all aspects of programming
  • to serve as a unique center for public engagement
  • to articulate the public value of aesthetic experiences
  • and to function as a catalyst for new knowledge and substantially affect the way the arts contribute to education and public life.
