Academic Senate Minutes Meeting of April 01, 2009

Abstract

Senate Chairperson, Chet Cooper, presided. Dr. Thomas Maraffa, Senior Assistant to the President, presented a summary of budget development activities for the FY 2010 budget. Dr. Shearle Furnish, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, announced a new undergraduate program in Gerontology, a new graduate program in Applied Behavioral Analysis, the partnership of the Ohio Historical Society and the History department, and that the International Studies will host three international scholars. The Senate Executive Committee reported the last Penguin Pride Event will be held April 24. Dr. Sharon Stringer, Director of Assessment, is organizing a round table meeting of various constituents of the University community who are involved in activities related to assessment. Dean Licata is organizing a Service Learning and Engagement round table to be held on April 17th. Chet Cooper reported on the Ohio Faculty Council meeting which focused on the fiscal state of Ohio's institutions of higher education and on several universities transitioning from quarters to semesters. The General Education Committee gave an informational report. The Ad Hoc Committee on Sustainability reported on committee activities and a draft resolution to be presented during the May meeting. In New Business a motion was passed to create an ad hoc committee to further research and develop the First-Year Experiences for YSU students.
