Academic Senate Minutes Meeting of May 06, 2009

Abstract

Senate Chairperson, Chet Cooper, presided. President David Sweet reported on a few highlights of this year and some information on the state budget. the Senate Executive Committee reported on the process of filling vacancies on Senate Committees. Tammy King was elected secretary of the Ohio Faculty Council. Dr. Sherry Linkon requested the Senate to incorporate the Council on Teaching and Learning into the Senate Committee Structure. An update was given on the the Engagement Task Force summit meeting and the Assessment Round Table sponsored by the Office of Assessment. Tammy King gave a report on the activities of the Ohio Faculty Council. Elections and Balloting Committee reported that elections for Senators were complete. The General Education Committee reported on a list of approved General Education courses, and an explanation of the denial of the appeal by the Department of Political Science. The Student Academic Grievance Committee reported it had three grievances last summer. Academic Events Committee gave an information report on committee activities. The Ad Hoc Committee on Sustainability presented a resolution which was passed. The Ad Hoc Committee on Admissions, Retention, and Student Success reported it will make recommendations in the fall in regards to the Freshman year, second year, and actions to be taken before a new student arrives.
