Growing Campus (1976-present)

Abstract

Changes in a physical campus often reflect a changing student body or new academic needs.

President John Coffelt is often called the “builder of the university.” During his presidency (1973-1984), the sights and sounds of a growing campus were constant. Major additions were made to the campus including: Maag Library (1976), Bliss Hall (1977), Wick Avenue parking deck (1978), Cushwa Hall (1978), DeBartolo Hall (1979), and Stambaugh Stadium (1982).

Presidents Cochran and Sweet have also been active in shaping the physical landscape of the University. Soon after taking office President Cochran began forming a comprehensive plan for campus development until the year 2000. With Youngstown City officials and local businesses, the University developed a plan to build housing, academic, and community buildings.

Under President Sweet, the Beeghly the College of Education, the Andrews Recreation Center, and the Williamson School of Business were built to provide modern facilities.
