dc.description.abstract The HLC Self-study was sent to the accreditation site visit team. Theater and music events were announced. The search for a dean of Fine and Performing Arts was in process. The provost search consultant firm was scheduled to visit campus January 17. YSU was to be notified the following month if it was successful in receiving funding for a $2 million Choose Ohio First grant as well as a grant for $1 million focusing on science education. YSU was to participate in an Ohio First Scholarship Program application with Central State University. Dr. Khawaja announced that as part of YSU's strategic planning initiative, Cheryl Bosley was selected as the Coordinator for Academic Advising. Annette Burden was slated to serve as interim director of Distance Learning. There was an active review of the higher education funding formation at the state level. Dr. Nathan Ritchey, chair, Mathematics and Statistics Department, was invited to share with council the status of the new cut-off/placement procedures in mathematics courses. Dr. Khawaja said Academic Affairs received 2 increases in funding modifications to the FY087 budget as a part of last Fall's increase in revenue--one dealt with student wages, the other with operating funds. The deans were reminded to continue their work on the academic strategic planning issues chosen for this year. The Academic Senate needed a letter from the Provost stating Deans Council's approval of the undergraduate academic program proposals that have been presented to council. Dean Yemma announced that since the enrollment in ROTC was at 60 students, the unit was awarded battalion status. FY 09 Lab/Materials Fee Change Request forms were due February 8. Due to the library losing many staff to the ERIP, Maag Library considered a change in service hours. en_US
