dc.description.abstract MATHCOUNTS competition activities would take place February 12. The 1st annual STEM Awards Dinner honoring alumni would be held in DeBartolo Stadium Club on Feb. 19. Jeffrey McKee, from OSU, was to give a free lecture on "Darwin's Prescient Insights on Human Evolution," as part of the Charles Darwin's 200th Brithday celebration. George Mehaffy, V.P. for Academic Leadership and Change, AASCU, would be on campus February 12 and was to speak on "Engagement as a Strategic Priority in the Public Urban University." Honors Convocation was moved from April 21 to April 28 and would be held on campus in the Chestnut Room instead of Stambaugh Auditorium. The Dean's List could be manifested by running a report through Banner. Banner was also capable of sending an award certificate to the students' Banner accounts. Dr. Khawaja said that this year' s university budget challenge would be in excess of $3 million. Because of the looming deficit, Dr. Khawaja decided to cap workload hours by college. The deans will need to cut their budgets to equal that number, approximate a 10% cut. Dr. Abraham handed out a summary of the spring and fall 2009 STEM 2600 natural science replacement courses, noting that fewer sections were offered in the spring term. The academic program review cycle would be discussed at a later meeting. YSU needed to investigate what value we are provided by the courier service to NEOUCOM. Dr. Binning, a legislative liaison for YSU, shared information about a Co-op/Internship Experience program tentatively to be offered by the state ODOD. The engagement team continued to meet and work on the Academic Strategic Plan goal. Dr. Kasvinsky passed out a list of all the Federal Appropriations requests that had been received. There was discussion about conditional admission, registration, late enrollment and pass rates. Dr. Abraham said that Chairs Ritchey and Salvner and Coordinator Karen Beckyer put together a pilot program for the fall, a 3-course block schedule for late-enrolling students. The deans discussed the follow up to the Turning Technologies presentation and faculty were very interested in the technology if it could be implemented in a painless way. Starting February 24, on a rotating schedule, there would be a presentation by one of the colleges at each of the Board of Trustees luncheons. The deadline to turn in college instructional equipment needs was extended to Feb. 10. en_US
