Deans were given a list of students who attended YSU during the previous semester and who had not registered for Spring semester. They were asked to do what they could to encourage the students to enroll for the upcoming term. There would likely be a budget cut. With regard to the correspondence among Deans Council about conditional admissions, registration, late enrollment, and pass rate, Student Affairs was contemplating adding two SOAR/registrations for new freshmen several weeks before spring classes and a catch-up SOAR during the week before classes. Dr. Martin Abraham expressed his concern that the current incoming students were extremely weak academically, and that there were no seats available in the courses they needed to take. Turning Technologies representative Kevin Owens gave a presentation on the fully interactive student response system. Marilyn Ward requested feedback on the use of the NEOUCOM courier service. As a follow-up to prior discussion, Marilyn distributed historical data on sections and student credit hours in developmental sections (FY01-FY08). Marilyn distributed the 2nd quarter individual college budgets and expenses. Updates were given on the searches for Fine and Performing Arts Dean and Bitonte College of Health and Human Services Dean. It was suggested that the Deans Council strategize ways to reduce the Academic Affairs portion of the budget in anticipation of the budget cuts. Marilyn Ward asked the deans to monitor the cancellation of courses as soon as possible each semester. Undergraduate students had been enrolled in graduate courses and approved by advisors and chairs without getting prior permission from the Graduate School. |
