dc.description.abstract Dr. Bayrak, chairperson of the Computer Science and Information Systems Department, shared with Council a letter regarding graduate faculty status and expressed his concern regarding requirements for graduate faculty status. Dean Sanders stated that the Graduate Council presides over concerns such as these, and Dr. Bayrak's concerns could be discussed at that forum. Associate Provost Ball stated the academic advisors have voiced several concerns about UAchieve. A discussion followed and it was suggested that Ms. Herman should attend the next Deans Council and an Academic Chairpersons' meeting to discuss the problems that were found in UAchieve and how to best correct those problems. The following policies were discussed: 3356-10-01 Hiring and Selection of Full and Part-time Faculty, 3356-10-07 Organization of instructions, and 3356-10-08 Sabbatical Leave for Department Chairpersons. Interim Provost Mosca stated he received 66 requests for new faculty positions in FY 2020, and the number approved will be much less than 66. The deans were to meet with Dr. Mosca to discuss allocations. A Provost Search would be conducted utilizing a three-committee approach to allow for representation across the entire campus. Ms. Christine Adams and Ms. Ana Torres accepted the co-director positions within Maag Library. Acting Dean King stated the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services is displaying an exhibit of 27 silhouettes who represent victims of domestic violence. Representatives from Taiwan were to visit campus in November. Dr. Karen Becker, Director of FYE, was now to report to the Division of Student Success instead Academic Affairs. A press conference was set for October 25 to announce the Paul J. Thomas Chair in Economics. Ms. Torres gave a report to the Budget Advisory Council documenting the funding received in Maag Library. New furniture was purchased for the library and delivered. The Library was working with Student Government to create a family-friendly study room. "A Night with Edgar Allen Pow" was scheduled for October 30 in Maag Library. Ms. Torres asked if the Maag Library could close between Christmas and New Year's day; the request was approved. 60 students attended the Honors College fall open house. Associate Provost Ball stated he talked to the chairs about learning outcomes. Guy Kawasaki, chief evangelist of Canva and former chief evangelist of Apple, is the Thomas Colloquium speaker. en_US
