Presented are the minutes of the 34th Annual Meeting of the Trustees of The Youngstown University. Officers to the Board were elected upon the recommendation of the Nominating Committee. Members of the State Capital Planning and Improvement Advisory Board visited YU on March 17. Enrollment figures were presented. President Jones reported that admissions to YU doubled in number. The General Neighborhood Renewal Program was finally cleared for action. Meanwhile, the Building Committee studied a report prepared by a faculty committee on campus development. The Administration was authorized renegotiate the lease on the Rayen Building. President Jones described gifts to the University. The Friends of the University Library received $11,100 from the current campaign, with another $5,000 possibly coming from the senior class. President Jones announced upcoming visits of representatives from several accreditation bodies. Eight senior cadets in Army ROTC were enrolled in flight training, with Advanced Course enrollment increasing. President Jones reported that Dr. John D. Millett, president of Miami University and Executive Secretary of the Ohio Board of Regents, was to be the commencement speaker for May 28. The Board approved the conferring of honorary degrees upon Dr. Millet and Willis G. Smith. Copies of the auditor’s report were distributed, and the University financial report was presented. Salary increases and bonuses were authorized. James Wick praised Dr. Jones for his work in developing YU since July 1931. |
