YSU is making decisions to reduce personnel costs through possible furloughs and layoffs, and it is assessing its budget after being financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. YSU seniors spend their last semester in quarantine with a virtual commencement ceremony. YSU Nursing graduates combat COVID-19 on the front-lines. Despite COVID-19, construction continues on campus. YSU's janitorial staff and YSU's department of environmental and occupational health and safety are fighting the risk of COVID-19 on campus. In order to cope with the statewide stay-at-home-order, many members of the music industry in northeast Ohio are going digital to make a living. The art of photography during a pandemic is looked at. YSU senior information technology student John Galvin is creating mask straps during his time in self-isolation. Youngstown restaurants struggle amid COVID-19 closures. Students living on campus were required to move out after the university announced online-only instruction March 13; however accommodations were made for students who could not move off campus. Food banks are experiencing an increase in need after millions of Americans file for unemployment. YSU student employees can work from home remotely.
