On Oct. 2, several hundred individuals of all genders, ethnicities and ages marched down Wick Avenue in protest of diminishing women's reproductive rights. Members of YSU's faculty union, YSU-OEA, and Association of Classified Employees, ACE, voted "no confidence" last week in response to the administration's COVID-19 protocols. COVID-19 cases on campus continued to trend downward. YSUnity is an organization aiming to help LBTQ individuals who face discrimination. The Choose Ohio First program tries to keep local STEM talent in the state through it's scholarship and recruiting opportunities. The Bouncing Back from COVID-19 project is meant to help students transition back into campus life. Celebrity chef Michael Symon gives advice and talks about his journey in the food business at Stambaugh Auditorium as the Skeggs Lecturer. Faculty members display art at the Judith Rae Solomon Gallery. Homecoming weekend was back for the first time since 2019 at YSU and with it came the parade, a winning game and the Fall Fire Fest which featured activities such as food trucks, ziplining and a concert. Greek life chapters participate in annual group service projects to raise money for charities. The Ward Beecher Planetarium hosts annual Nightlights Halloween shows every Friday and Saturday in October. The 1st penalty flag was thrown at a YSU game 80 years ago and it was the brainchild of YSU head football coach, Dwight "Dike" Beede. The YSU women's soccer team secures its second victory of the season. The YSU volleyball team lost to Robert Morris University. The YSU football team got to celebrate defeating Missouri State University at the homecoming game. |
