Abstract

Despite 77% of students saying within 30 miles of Youngstown after graduation, many remain uncertain about local jobs. YSU COVID-19 cases took a sharp uptick this week with an increase of 18 cases from the previous week, with a total of 31 cases. The federal government issued a funding of about $15.4 million for Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III grant to help YSU students with financial expenses due to the pandemic. Halloween begins the holiday season and it's the time when students should begin to stay alert about the dangers of drinking under the influence and underage drinking. The philosophy and religious studies department is hosting author and Washington Post reporter Pete Earley for its semi-annual speakers series event on Nov. 9. Bishop David J. Bonnar appointed Rev. Norbert Keliher as the new director of campus ministry at YSU. Francesca Byrne and Edward Sadler were declared homecoming queen and king at the homecoming game. YSU alumnus, Justin Haines, created his own clothing brand called Dead Ink Apparel. Sarah Awad, a painter from California, presented an informal lecture at the department of visual and dramatic arts on Oct. 19. The kinesiology and sport science department is offering free individualized personal training to YSU faculty and staff members. YSU women's tennis team competed in the Singles and Doubles Championships at the Cleveland State University Viking Invitation Oct. 15-17. The YSU men's golf team finished second at the Bucknell Invitational at Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, PA. YSU sports shorts are given. YSU Bowling rolls into 2nd place at the MOTIV Penguin Classic at Holiday Bowl in Struthers. YSU athletics has partnered with Opendorse to prepare all student-athletes for success in the next chapter of college sports with a market leading name, image and likeness partner.
