Abstract

Helen K. Lafferty was appointed interim president of Youngstown State University, effective February 01, 2023. Erik Engartner, the owner of The Wickyards, is hosting the venue's first haunted house every weekend leading up to Halloween. The Simeon E. Booker Award was presented to two recipients October 6 in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center: Anthony Ray Hinton, the national recipient, and Dr. Virginia "Dee" Banks, local recipient. Despite the 4% decline in enrollment, YSU's international student enrollment increased 65% from fall 2021. A lawsuit against YSU has been dismissed following the university dropping all contract bids on the Arlington Parking Facility Project. The Exercise Science Department hosted a session October 7th for Active Aging Week at Beeghly Center. YSU's annual Fall Fire Fest takes place October 13 with music artists Riley Burke, Clarence Gordon Jr. "Grizzley" with DJ and music producer, John Blinsky. OH WOW! partners with YSU to create STEM SAKs, a self-contained science activity kit, for kids and teens. Eva Kwong, an international artist, has been inspired by the bacteria found within the human body to create a 3D art exhibition. Paula Gursching of the YSU volleyball team breaks the school record with 33 kills. Women's soccer improves to 4-6-3 on the season. Following a fifth and sixth place finish in the 2022 Horizon League Championships, the YSU men's and women's swimming and diving teams cannon-balled into the 2022-2023 season. The YSU football team falls to the University of North Dakota, 35-30.
