YSU and medical centers near the campus spread awareness and raised money to help facilitate a need for cancer-screening services. Tensions flared in Stambaugh Auditorium on Oct. 17 during the final Senate debate before midterm elections between Democratic candidate Tim Ryan and Republican candidate JD Vance. Helen K. Lafferty, the new interim president at YSU, addressed members of local media Oct. 17 in a Webex conference available to the press. YSU participated in A Day of Discourse which was sponsored by the Ohio Debate Commission and Akron University. YSU considers working with SOBE Thermal Energy Solutions to provide steam for campus use. Created Equal, an anti-abortion Columbus-based organization, visited campus October 12. Renovations of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County attracts YSU students. Homecoming events took place October 13 with Fall Fire Fest from Penguin Productions. Lit Youngstown is an organization that partners with YSU for its annual Fall Literary Festival from October 20 to 22. Dana Symphony Orchestra held its first concert of the season at Powers Auditorium in Deyor Performing Arts Center on October 12. The Penguin Pantry has moved from Kilcawley Center to room 1405 in Cushwa Hall. The YSU volleyball team struggles on the road. The women's soccer team fights for a spot in the Horizon League playoffs.The Penguin bowling team ranked second in the 2022 MOTIV Penguin Classic. After a three game losing streak, the YSU football team won against Indiana State University at YSU's homecoming game October 15. |
