Abstract

Updates are given about the Kilcawley Student Center renovations. January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and the YSU Coalition Against Human Trafficking, a student organization, is starting its club meetings. YSU's amateur radio station, K8YSU, was dedicated on January 21 in Moser Hall during a ceremony honoring benefactor and founder Albert "Norm" Into Jr. It's about midway through the academic year, and the Student Government Association executives are working on their campaign promises. Laser engraving, 3D printing and sewing are some of the free activities offered by the Makers Academy hosted by the main branch at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County and Michael Kusalaba Library. Ashley Chalupka was this years recipient of the Outstanding Dietetic Student Award. Minerals, fossils, and crystals fill the Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum in Moser Hall at YSU. Lit Youngstown, a local literary organization which promotes literature and storytelling in the area, is featured. Crime reports are given. The YSU men's and women's track & field teams combined to win nine events, break meet records and set personal bests. Following winter break, the bowling team prepared for the 2023 season by striking it way into 5th place in the Sacred heart University Northeast Classic. The YSU women's basketball team would go on to win a key game on the road against Green Bay Wisconsin and pick up its seventh conference win improving to 13-5 for the season. As of January 23, the YSU men's basketball team offense is tied for fifth place in the NCAA standings in total scoring offense, averaging 84.5 points per game, with 21 games played.
