Plans for the University’s first Spring Weekend progressed. Rep. Robert Taft, Jr., Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, stressed the role of the individual in a brief address to 400 students. Representatives of YU and WYTV-TV (Channel 33) announced plans to create a student television program. Parking stickers became necessary for vehicles using the three University lots. Mayor Anthony Flask helped YU students participating in a voter’s drive. An ecumenical debate was announced, to be sponsored by the Newman Club. YU’s NAACP president Ron Daniels presented his views on university politics. J. Ross Philips, manager of Republic Steel’s Youngstown Division, was named to the YU Board of Trustees. President Jones outlined plans for campus expansion to the Ohio Capital Planning Board. Cleveland TV horror movie host/personality Ghoulardi was featured. A debate between the teams representing YU and Harvard University was scheduled. |
