dc.description.abstract Announcement of a major gift to support a full-time faculty position for Islamic studies at YSU was made by Dr. Leslie Cochran, president, and Dr. Nazir Ahmed, president of the Community for the SYU Chair of Islamic Studies. Alumni Association offers graduates with a wide variety of benefits. The Schermer Scholar-in-Residence Program invited Faye Killerman, best-selling mystery writer, to YSU to present a lecture to the faculty, student body and community. A new Student Government Organization, YSU Environmental Studies Society, has been active since its inception in February 1995. Heidi Swegan, junior, food and nutrition, is one of 400 students participating in the Semester at Sea program. World-renowned percussionist, Bob Becker, will perform at YSU. Sports features an article on YSU's number 1 tennis player, Christian Muddle. Penguin volleyball players earn Mid-Con laurels and head coach Joe Conroy received "Coach of the Year" award. en_US
