dc.description.abstract This photograph depicts Dr. Kurt Wegner, head of the Type II Sabin oral polio vaccine immunization program in Youngstown, Ohio, in February 1962. The program, which was sponsored by the Mahoning County Medical Society and endorsed by the American Medical Association, was reportedly the first in the nation. Wegner, formerly of Buffalo, New York and Berlin, Germany, served as chairman of the Mahoning County Medical Society's Polio Committee and spearheaded the program, which occurred February 15-17, 1962. en_US
