Academic Senate Minutes Meeting of May 03, 2006

Abstract

Tom Shipka, Chair of the Academic Senate, presided. YSU Provost, Robert Herbert, has authorized a continuation of YSU serving as the custodian of the Ohio Faculty Council web site as a YSU Service to Ohio public higher education. Elections required under the Senate Charter and Bylaws are now completed. Tom Shipka, and Dr. Chet Cooper will leave their Senate posts on August 15. An interim chair will be selected by the Executive Senate Committee. An update is given from President Sweet and Provost Herbert. Topics include: enhanced facilities, the Recreation and Wellness center, Budget items, Campus developments, the Community college, Labor-Management Council, and Academic Affairs. Elections and Balloting Committee attached the results of the elections for Senators and for committee seats to the agenda. Academic Programs Committee reported on approved program changes. The Undergraduate Curriculum Committee reported on approved courses. The General Education Committee reported that due to significant problems in meeting the Intensive requirements of the General Education Model, a new policy for the intensives is proposed. The Academic Research Committee recommended modifications of the Research misconduct policy. The Student Academic Affairs Committee reported and introduced a resolution concerning the creation of a standardized Curriculum Sheet for all majors. In New Business, a Resolution of Appreciation is given for Dr. Thomas A. Shipka.
