Tom Shipka, chair of the Academic Senate, presided. The Executive Senate Committee reported a project on campus is underway to help raise funds for the victims of the tsunami in South Asia. The resolution opposing the passage of Senate Bill 24 has been distributed to every post-secondary institution of higher education in Ohio. The Events Management Committee reported that because of the large number of graduates for Spring, there will be two commencement ceremonies, one for undergraduates and one for graduates. Charter and Bylaws Committee reported on changes to the Bylaws regarding the election process. The Undergraduate Curriculum Committee gave a list of approved courses. The General Education Committee gave an list of approved courses and reported on assessment. The Ad Hoc Committee of Waiver of National Searches moved that the Senate should notify the YSU administration and Board of Trustees that the current "Search waiver" policy must be modified to remove ambiguities and to formulate greater restrictions and specific procedures in its application; and the policy should be halted until the weaknesses have been adequately addressed. |
