dc.description.abstract In this thesis, primary alcohols, secondary alcohols as well as sugars were successfully converted to their corresponding alkyl azides using o-nitrobenzesulfonyl azide as the azide transferring reagent. This method of azidation successfully converted various groups of alcohols to their corresponding azides with little or no by-products. The thesis also deals with the investigation of the reaction mechanism the process of azidation goes through. en_US
