Academic Deans Council Minutes : October 07, 2009

Abstract

As part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week, YSU students were invited to submit ideas for new businesses as part of the IdeaLaunch competition. The Alumni Association was to host Alumni events in each college during the year. The BCOE was the first college to hold this event. The 2nd Distance Learning Conference would held at YSU on Friday. The Technology Division would begin implementation meetings during the following week to transition to Blackboard 9. Dean Ginnetti introduced a program development plan for a Masters of Education and certificate in School Psychology. The H1N1 Center for Disease Control Guidelines were distributed and preventative measures need to be taken to cut the risk of people catching the flu. 2010 SOAR dates were discussed with concern that holding SOAR dates in August would send the wrong message to students, that it is acceptable to wait as long as possible to register for classes. Earlier SOAR deadlines were recommended. Dr. Singler passed out information currently being considered by the Academic Standards Committee on Additional Majors and Degrees. Deans Council members were asked to send input. Dr. Khawaja asked Deans Council to commence working on their departmental goals and annual plans. Marilyn Ward distributed the current 2009-10 reassigned-time summary by category and the individual college overload figures. Overload estimates were due by the end of the month. Quarterly budget statements were mailed to the deans. The fiscal year 2009 salary savings and research incentive funds were not rolled forward. Dr. Singler put together a committee to work on revising the part-time faculty handbook.
