dc.description.abstract Dr. Alfred Bright, the founding director of the YSU Black Studies program, now known as Africana Studies, in 1970 and the first African American Full-service faculty member at the university, recently died. YSU welcomed Carol Bennett to campus as the new assistant provost for diversity and inclusion on October 16. Active shooter training on campus was held emphasizing on identifying the warning signs and knowing what to do in the event of an active shooter. America Makes Institute, a national institute that focuses on "advancing 3D printing additive manufacturing for the country," adds value to Youngstown's manufacturing industry. The Digital Humanities Club, a new student organization on campus, aims to integrate technology and the arts. The Nepalese Student Association hosts cultural events and celebrations to connect with students and feel closer to their home country. Preparations for the Youngstown Marathon, which was held October 27, were given. Vandalism has been occurring on campus and in the Wick Avenue parking deck at YSU. YSU men's basketball team kicked its season off with a huge victory over Thiel College. YSU women's basketball team have high expectations after coming off a historic season. YSU football team heads to South Dakota on Saturday to try to pick up a win after a 56-17 loss last week. en_US
