YSU's charity dance marathon, Guinathon, raised a record amount of $60,028.44 for Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning County. Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided with Naloxone) provides naloxone training for YSU students. An email was sent to the YSU community with a recommendation to not travel to China and to issue a "temporary restriction for all university-sponsored travel to China" due to the COVID-19 coronavirus. A few ambitious students established a Her Campus chapter at YSU with the intent to empower and lift up collegiate women on campus. Club and intramural sports partner with Mercy Health for funding opportunities. YSU accounting students gained real-life experience by offering free tax services to YSU students and Youngstown residents. The YSU Ethics Bowl Team is ranked first in the nation after winning the national Association for Practical and Professional Ethics Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl on Feb. 22. YSU International Student, Rumi Minato, travels the world. Frieda's, Youngstown's oldest jazz club, recently reopened after renovations. Emily Henline is a semifinalist for the Fulbright Program for a master's degree in Korean studies. Ryan Bonacci, chief of police for Mercy Health Youngstown and martial arts instructor, demonstrates self-defense techniques for YSU students and faculty for emergency situations. YSU swimming and diving team places seventh at the Horizon League Championships. Women's golf is in full swing for Spring. The YSU basketball teams close out their home regular season play. |
