dc.description The donor, Leonard Sainato's father, acquired the wine press after prohibition was repealed (1933). We made wine almost every year after that time. Wine grapes were imported from California. we would go to the railroad siding to load our truck with boxes of grapes needed to make the wine. There were several varieties available in those days. Mostly zinfandel, malaga, and muscatel to name a few. Mostly we made the red wine. Occasionally we would make muscatel. It made a wine with a higher alcohol content than the reds. These may be mixed sometime to get a red wine with a higher alcohol content. The last time we made wine was in 1970. en_US
