dc.description.abstract The purpose of this thesis was to analyze a tension splice connection used in the bottom chord of long roof truss. Using finite element techniques and the STRUDL-II program, analytical results were obtained and then verified experimentally. Test specimens were strain gaged at points of maximum stress, as obtained from analytical results, and then tested to a maximum load of 70,000 lbs. Based on the experimental verification of the analytical results, the correct analytical procedure or modeling technique was obtained and thereby enabling the analyst to determine the load capacity of the splice connection. en_US
