dc.description.abstract This thesis investigates the design and implementation of a simplified standard PID controller, a method of tuning these types of controllers and the implementation of an auto-tuning controller. The implementation includes programming the control software in "C" language on a personal computer, interfacing the software and hardware to analog-to-digital, digital-to-analog converters, and programming a plant simulation and an analog computer. A method of manually turning the PID controller, an explanation of the "C" programming code, the hardware configuration, and the automatic tuning of PID controllers are discussed and presented. en_US
