Abstract:
Presented are the minutes of the 374th meeting of the Board of Trustees of Youngstown State University. This was a regular meeting. President Tressel reported the Excellence Training Center is nearing completion, and that Fifth Avenue improvements, the $124 million "We See Tomorrow" campaign and the Take Charge of Our Future strategic plan are also all progressing nicely. YSU is tentatively planning an in-person Spring commencement ceremony in Stambaugh Stadium. Presentations were given by Dr. Amy Fluker (Department of Humanities and Social Sciences), Kara Bischoff (Civil Engineering major) and Nursing students, Gracey White and Michaela Magnifico. Committee reports followed. The Board resolved to modify the Honorary Degrees and Commencement Speakers Policy; modify the Intellectual Property Rights policy; to authorize Conferral of Honorary Degree to Mr. Harold Danko; to accept WYSU memberships; to modify Reduction/Refund of Tuition and Fees policy; to modify the University Facilities - Use, Priorities, and Fees policy; to modify Acquisition of Real Estate policy; modify Identity Theft Red Flags policy; to approve Changes to Student Fees; to approve Interfund Transfers; to ratify Personnel Actions - Intercollegiate Athletics, to modify and retitle Externally Funded Professional/Administrative Staff policy; to modify and retitle Acting/Interim Appointments of University Administrators policy, to modify and retitle Public Use of University Grounds for Expressive Activity policy to approve the Reclassifications of Personnel; to ratify Personnel Actions - Faculty and PA Staff; to Extend the Contract of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Through June 30, 2025; and to approve Fourth Presidential Employment Agreement Extension and Third Amendment with Youngstown State University President James P. Tressel. President Tressel recognized the following passings : William R. McGraw (first dean the of YSU College of Fine and Performing Arts), John J. Young (father of John Young, executive director of Kilcawley Center), Wealthie B Prince (alum and employee in Registrar's office for nearly 50 years), John F. Ritter (retire professor of Civil Engineering), Corey Michaliszyn (spouse of Sara Michaliszyn, acting chair of Health Professions), Richard Burden (taught at YSU for 36 years, co-founded the Computer Science program, chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, spouse of retired Professor Annette Burden), Mary Lou Hendrickson Cole (mother of Ron Cole director of University Communications), Darius Shackleford (student and member of Penguin football program from 2015 to 2020), Alice Stavich Klempay (university donor), Michael Hanni (coordinator for Student Conduct and Cafaro House coordinator), and Johnny McElroy (record-setting YSU Hall of Fame basketball player, father of Ursel J. McElroy, director of the Ohio Department of Aging). There being no further business to come before the board of trustees, the meeting was duly adjourned.
