President Tressel will be stepping down as president of YSU starting February 1, 2023. Several pages highlight the recent achievements of alumni. YSU's Half Century Club Celebration will take place October 13 in Stambaugh Auditorium. Julie Centofanti, junior in the Sokolov Honors College, was among only two students across Ohio to receive the 2022 Charles J. Ping Student Service Legacy Award for outstanding leadership and contributions to community service. The Cooperative Education and Internship Association named YSU student Tumi Adeeko as the 2022 Intern of the Year. The Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge teams placed first at regional competitions. The Ethics Bowl Squad earns their sixth regional championship. YSU Athletic teams win nine conference titles. Two Choose Ohio First research groups from YSU were awarded "Top Poster" commendations at the Northeast Ohio Regional Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program Poster Symposium. Four YSU students were finalists in the 2022 NASBITE International Student Case Competition, under the guidance of Omer Genc, assistant professor of International Business in the Williamson College of Business Administration. Three students in YSU’s capstone course in Geography met with Bob Boley, mayor of Wellsville, Ohio, to present the findings of their study on ways to revitalize the small village in Columbiana County. Dr. Sergul A. Erzurum, Laura Lyden and Julie Centofanti were named to the YSU Board of Trustees. YSU received a $2.3 million research and development award from the Air Force Research Laboratory to create a hub-and-spoke consortium on hybrid manufacturing. For 10 consecutive years, YSU ranked #1 in recycling. The Lincoln Avenue parking deck is demolished. YSU partners in a job creation initiative. YSU's Doctor of Physical Therapy program is named Program of the Year by the Ohio Physical Therapy Association. University Theatre announces it's 2022-2023 season. YSU Phi Kappa Phi celebrated 50 years this year. YSU received the Collegiate Purple Star, a STAR training center recognition and a four-star rating for initiatives involving the state Sunshine Law. The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. |
