Abstract

The YSU board of trustees held a special meeting Jan. 28 as the board approved two motions to support the construction of the planned student center. YSU's Mike Latessa, the first National Championship athlete with a bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degree, was honored by the YSU women's basketball team Jan. 15. Starting Feb. 1, the YSU's bursar's office will no longer accept debit cards at the cashier window, making card payments available exclusively online with a small fee. The YSU Police Academy received a therapy dog to help students and community members cope with stress, as well as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. YSU graduate represents Ohio in the Youth250 Bureau, which serves to encourage young people's participation in the celebration of the United States' 250th anniversary. The YSU baseball team held its annual First Pitch Breakfast with guest speaker George Foster. In 2024, 50 student-athletes from YSU's men's and women's baseball, football and softball teams signed name, image and likeness deals. Social media and mental health is looked at. The floating music festival, The Rock Boat, is currently making waves as it set sail Jan 26-31 to celebrate its 24th annual voyage. The John J. McDonough Museum of Art unveiled five new exhibitions, which will be on display Tuesdays through Saturdays until Feb. 28. Ringo Starr's 21st studio album "Look Up" is reviewed. The season-opening matches for the YSU's women's tennis team came from the comfort of the YSU Tennis Center. YSU track and field teams hosted the YSU Collegiate Invitational Jan. 17. With the women's basketball season winding down, YSU looks to own a home conference playoff game or first-round bye -- potentially both. The men's basketball team looks to improve their conference record before the postseason.
