YSU received close to $93,000 in security grants. Students in the Sokolov Honors College fundraised $10,000, which was donated to the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. The YSU Foundation distributes more than $11 million in scholarships annually. An article on student trustees is given. More donations were made for the Kilcawley: Centered on the Future Campaign. Vibrant Valley, an organization which prioritizes community health in the Mahoning Valley, is featured. Horizon League volleyball standout Sam Ott brought her competitive experiences to YSU as a newly hired graduate assistant coach. YSU kicked off Black History Month with its annual African Marketplace on Feb. 1. At basketball games, the YSU athletics department is entertaining fans by hosting national halftime acts during home games. The Ward Beecher Planetarium shows are featured. The album "Balloonerism" by Mac Miller is reviewed. The YSU men's tennis team remained undefeated Jan. 31-Feb.1 as it traveled to Cumberland, Rhode Island for two matches against Bryant University and Nichols College. The women's tennis team takes a gamble traveling to Vegas to face Oral Roberts University at the Feritta Tennis Complex. YSU track and field team hosted the YSU Mid Major Invitational Jan 31-Feb. 1. YSU women's basketball drops to 9-13 on the season with a 4-8 record in conference play placing them eighth in the Horizon League. The men's basketball team wins against Wright State but loses to Indiana University, Indianapolis dropping them to 8-5 in the Horizon League. |
