David C. Sweet, YSU's new president, describes his vision for YSU and Youngstown. Head football coach Jim Tressel formally accepted the position as head coach of The Ohio State University football team. Jon Heacock will be the Penguins new coach. Notable visitors and guest speakers on campus were given. Stephen and Brigitta Hanzely established a Scholarship for International Students. Fran Lyons honors Dick Hartzell with an endowed scholarship. Pam Querin's artwork is featured in the book "Annika's Secret Wish" by Beverly Lewis. YSU is the first American university to dig at the site of Acre (Akko), Israel. The Center for Working-Class Studies is awarded YSU's First Ford Foundation Grant. Dr. Victor Wan-Tatah is the new director of Africana Studies. Alumni Updates are given. Ken Perich, class of 1972 and vice president for market development at Rolls-Royce North America, is responsible or all aspects of business relationships with major national, regional and freight/package airlines in North America. For the first time ever, representatives from YSU traveled to the west coast in November to support the Penguin football team in their contest against Cal-Poly State University in San Luis Obispo and to make contact with California alums. The Office of Alumni Relations will host the second annual Awards Banquet this spring. YSU Alumni Association and the University come together to form the new Office of Alumni Relations. |
