dc.description.abstract In memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, YSU students decided to construct a memorial flagpole on campus. David C. Sweet was formally installed as president by the YSU Board of Trustees in October. Research by biochemist Jeffrey Smiley is featured. Enrollment on campus has increased. Sweet's administration team is introduced. Upward Bound program is detailed. YSU will host the 15th Ohio Summer Honors Institute. Plans to remove the toxins and clean up the Mahoning River are given. The Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum is featured. Ron Strollo is the first YSU graduate to be appointed as athletic director. Dean Barbara Bothers retires after 41 years of service. Alumni updates are given. F.W. "Bill" Knecht III received the Distinguished Citizen Award. en_US
