President David C. Sweet discusses the legacy of late Provost Robert K. Herbert who spearheaded the creation of two new colleges at YSU -- The College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS). The University of Kansas Press publishes YSU Political Science Professor Paul Sracic's book, "San Antonio V. Rodriguez and the Pursuit of Equal Education: The Debate of Discrimination and School Funding." YSU installs a high ropes course at the Recreation and Wellness Center. Associate Professor of Jazz Studies David Morgan is commissioned by the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra to compose music for jazz great Leo Lovano. A comprehensive look at university news, events, and programs around campus is given. Thomas J. Cavalier is YSU"s Distinguished Citizen. Dr. Robert D. Fitzer, instructor of clarinet at the Dana School of Music, is remembered. For the third straight year, YSU students receive the prestigious Goldwater and Phi Kappa Phi scholarships. The new College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is the first of its kind in Ohio and one of the few in the United States. The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is the cornerstone of the university, offering nine academic majors and general education requirements. Explore the university's last 100 years through a timeline, memories from graduates and the archives collection and Centennial events. The Penguins take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the season opener in September. |
