The six Penguin canoeists who paddled along the Mississippi River to New Orleans returned to Youngstown to a rousing welcome from friends and family members. Unofficial summer enrollment was estimated at 5,600 students. YSU students completed work in an experimental child nursery. Penguin football quarterback Cliff Stoudt was a candidate for All-American.
