Academic Senate Minutes Meeting of November 10, 1993

Abstract

Virginia Phillips, Chairperson, presided. Kathy Field was elected as parliamentarian and Aubrey Fowler as secretary. Elections and Balloting Committee reported on Chair of the Senate and Charter and Bylaws Committee elections with Virginia Phillips as elected Chair, Lawrence Hugenburg as Vice Chair, and D. Rost, H. Earnhart and D. Hovey as new members of the Charter and Bylaws Committee. The Charter and Bylaws Committee reported on the change of Personnel Services to Human Resources in Bylaw 3, Section 2, the changes which were attached to the May 5, 1993 Senate Agenda will be submitted for approval at the next Board of Trustees meeting on December 17, Correction to the Charter and Bylaws will be distributed by the Provost's office in January and Mary Beaubien was elected as chairperson of the committee. The Senate Executive Committee reported on committee vacancies, the open forum on the Mission and Goals Statement which was held October 20, the new list of the Administrative Committee structure, and Senate Agendas will be posted to Network News, an online new service through the computer center. The Academic Planning Committee requested that any substantive changes be sent back to the committee for review and possible change. Discussion continued on the Mission Statement. New Business pertained to the Honors/ICP Committee indicating that the role of directing of the honors and ICP programs is becoming more time consuming and indicated that a request was going to be made to establish a 1/2 time honors director with eventual consideration for a full time director.
