Jim Morrison, chair of the Academic Senate, presided. The Senate Executive Committee reported on making faculty appointments to committees. The Ohio Faculty Council reported on the Ohio and Pennsylvania's "Grant-portability" agreement. The Charter and Bylaws Committee motioned for the following bylaw changes: to move student academic grievances from the Division of Student Affairs to the Division of Academic Affairs; and to add an academic advisor to the Academic Programs Committee and the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. Academic Standards Committee motioned the addition of SAT II English Language Proficiency Test as a way international students can show English language
proficiency. The Academic Programs Committee and the Curriculum attached approved courses, programs, program changes and minors to the agenda. The General Education Committee reported it is proceeding with the certification of intensive courses and selected Mel Watkins's Dancing with Strangers book for incoming freshmen to use in the general education program. The Integrated Technologies Committee is forwarding a memo to President Sweet supporting the need for a chief technology officer at YSU. The Library Committee motion the approval of the Fiscal Year 2003 Library Materials Budget. The Academic Events Committee gave an informal update on studying the Honors Convocation and commencement ceremonies to see how these events could be more meaningful. The Strategic Planning Committee reported a wrap-up meeting of the committee for May 16. Unfinished Business pertained to the Ad Hoc Ethics Committee and the motion to include the definition of "plagiarism." |
