Emphases on students’ personal and professional growth and development permeate the educational process. Instruction and experiential learning components are provided to insure that students develop a thorough knowledge of their particular area of em- phasis and of their roles as facilitators of human growth and change. An individual style of counseling emerges through a blend of academics, field experiences, and personal growth. The Department of Counseling is com- mitted to recruiting and selecting students representative of our varied and pluralistic society. The School Counseling Program is designed to prepare licensed counselors to work effectively with chil- dren and adolescents from kindergarten through high school. School counselor trainees acquire skills in coun- seling with individuals and groups, consultation with parents and teachers, and coordination of personnel services. Primary emphasis is placed on the delivery of comprehensive counseling services in a school setting. Completion of this program will satisfy the educational portion of the requirements for licensure by the Ohio Department of Education as a school counselor. This program is also accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
