HISTORICAL OUTLINE OF YOUNGSTOWN STATE UNIVERSITY Beginnings of the Youngstown YMCA Dana Musical Institute founded in Warren (Moved to Younqstown and affiliated with Younqstown College in 1941) First classes beaun at YMCA School of Law of the Youngstown Association School, sponsored by the Young Men's Christian As~oci~tional School of Law of the Younqstown Association School empowered by the state of Ohio to grant the degree of Bachelor of Laws. The Y.M.C. Associational School introduced a four-year course in Business Administration. Name of Y.A. School changed to Younastown Institute of Technology. Liberal arts classes offered in the evenincys. College of Arts and Sciences, offering daytime classes for the first time, was established. Youngstown Institute of Technology changed its name to Youngstown College. College confers B.A. degree for the first time. Dr. Howard Jones became President of Younqstown College. Jones Hall (formerly called main building) occupied by Youngstown College. Dana Musical Institute affiliated with Youngstown College (founded in Warren 1869) as Dana IV-usic School. YMCA transferred control to the Corporation of Youngstown College Youngstown College accredited by North Central Association Engineering Department became William Rayen School of Engineerinu Business Administration Department became School of Business Administration Library building completed Tod Hall completed Youngstown Colleae rechartered as the Younastown University Science building completed Department of Education became School of Education Albert L. Pugsley became President of Younastown University Kilcawley Student Center completed Youngstown University became Youngstown State University Ward Beecher Hall completed Engineering Science Buildincr opened. Graduate School established Technical and Coirmunity College (renamed the College of Applied Sciences and Technol-oqy in 1976) Beeqhly Physical Education Center completed YSU became member of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Dr. John Coffelt became President of YSU College of Fine and Performing Arts established New library building (Maag library) opened. C.A.S.T. building opened.
