Abstract: Cultural narratives have shaped the history of post-traumatic stress disorder, affecting how it has been understood as well as the way its sufferers have been treated. This presentation explores the shifting cultural narrative as it moves from a gendered stigmatization to medicalization to an emerging hero-narrative.
