dc.description.abstract Soon after coming to YSU, President Cochran made a commitment to increasing students' awareness of other cultures and produce graduates who are “global citizens.” In 1995, a full-time faculty position in Islamic Studies was endowed by the local Muslim community. In the same year, President Cochran visited China and signed a “Sister University” agreement with Changshun Taxation College. This agreement established a student and faculty exchange program between the two schools. President Sweet visited China and Taiwan in 2007 and has signed academic partnership agreements with five schools. These agreements give YSU students and faculty a chance to study and conduct research in China, Taiwan, Turkey, India, and the United Kingdom. Producing global citizens remains one of the University's goals in the current strategic plan. Specifically, the goal is to double the number of international students on campus and increase the number of YSU students who study abroad. To achieve this, the University has established the Center for International Studies, offers more diverse language courses, and arranges short international study tours for small groups of students. en_US
