Title: Academic Deans Council Minutes : September 28, 1971
Abstract: Dr. Edgar advised the deans of the forthcoming meeting on the 15th of October on the subject of student evaluation of teaching. Nominations to the Danforth Foundation were due by November 2. A memorandum from Dean Robinson brought to light the question of the policy concerning advising on Friday evenings. The deans were expected to make the analysis of undersized classes and justifications for continuance of small classes to Dr. Edgar by October 4. An ad hoc committee was to study the problem of faculty loads attributable to the supervision of student independent study. A question has arisen concerning the distribution of faculty loads attributable to teaching interdisciplinary courses. Letters were sent to those on 9 month contracts who were receiving their raises as indicated in the new budget because of promotions or earned degrees. University travel regulations would not change. The questions of administrative grade changes came up again. A question was raised about the status of the forms for the Statute of Limitations. A subcommittee was to study accelerated course work and university credit by examination. The free university which had been covered in the recent issues of the Jambar was discussed. Dr. Edgar advised the group that the university was awaiting the hearing officer's recommendation in the Poddar case. Dr. Edgar expressed his concern about the need for continual review of faculty performance during the probationary period.
