dc.description.abstract It was advised that the block scheduling needed to be tried in practice and modified as needed. Construction of annual class schedules were proceeding. Distribution of available terminals was progressing. The Provost sought a refinement of the costs involved in the student data system. The Geriatrics/gerontology proposal was modified and approved by President Humphrey and forwarded to St. Elizabeth's. Planning statements from departments were awaiting to be received by the Provost. Deadlines for Deans' Scholarship applications were discussed. The provosts of area colleges (YSU, Akron, Cleveland State and Kent State) were meeting to determine graduate education at each campus. The recommendations from the factfinder had been received, regarding YSU-YSU/OEA negotiations. H.B. 870 would provide $1.366 million in instructional equipment for YSU. The Board policy on liquor served on-campus needed to be disseminated. Issues arose on the topic of tuition remission being non-taxable for graduate assistance. The problem of funding positions under soft money was to be brought to the Board. The Provost noted that the Department of the Army announced that ROTC "Detachments" will no longer be designated as such, but as "Battalions." House Bill 497 will be sent to the deans. The admissions requirements for Allied Health met with no resistance. The testing agency was to be asked to investigate when variance wasnoted in subsequent ACT scores for an individual student. Dean Lyons introduced a policy for petitions to change F to W. Sutton announced YSU was eligible to apply for research funds. Scriven announced the Career-Beginning Program had over 100 high school seniors selected. Neal reminded people of the SCOPE project. Ruggles described the academic component of the Governor's Summer Institutes for Gifted and Talented Students. Scriven reported applications were higher this summer than last, but lower for this fall. en_US
