May 17, 1960: Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Minutes

Abstract

This was a regular meeting. Upon the recommendation of the Finance Committee, E.P. Beatty was elected as Assistant Secretary of The Youngstown University. The Finance Committee also recommended salary increases for faculty, an increase in the payment under the retirement compensation contract between YU and President Jones, and reviewed the financial condition of the University. President Jones commented on enrollment numbers, then announced new faculty appointments and faculty leaves of absence. William F. Maag, Jr. reported on library fundraising activities. The death of Franklin Powers was noted. President Jones reported on a scholarship program for 1960, and commented upon the YU retirement policy. Architects presented plans for a new Student Union and Gymnasium Buildings. President Jones reported on the repeal of the University’s action/position in the Lombard zoning case, fraternity house incidents, and the dedication of the new science building. The Honors Day program was discussed and a list of those graduating (including those Army ROTC cadets to receive commissions) was presented.
