dc.description.abstract The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the parametric vibration of a beam-column including the effects of shearing stress and transverse and rotary inertia. The effect of shear on the dynamic regions of stability and instability of the beam-column is determined, The theory yields the classical Mathieu-type differential equation. The stable and unstable solutions of the equation are investigated using the- Hill-determinant method, The effect of shear stress on the stability of the solutions of the equations is determined mathematically and is pictured graphically. A comparison is made with the classical solution for the special case when shear and rotary inertia are neglected. en_US
