dc.description.abstract |
An extremely accurate method for measuring flow velocities in liquids and gases is by the use of a hot wire anemometer. In this study a technique is developed to calibrate a hot film anemometer in water at intermediate velocities. The voltage otput of the anemometer is monitored by either a digital display or Brush Recorder.
The velocity field is created by drawing the robe through a water tank in simultaneously drawing along with it a contact point sliding over a coil of wire generating a frequency proportional to the probe velocity. The velocity range of the system extends from a lower value of 30 cm./sec. to an upper limit of approximately 95 cm./sec.
Calibration curves are generated for various overheat ratios along with a curve relating probe resistance with probe temperature. A curve is also developed for the case when the probe is at a 45 degree angle with respect to velocity flow. |
