Abstract

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society celebrates Christmas with both in-person and virtual events centered at the Tyler History Center. The Youngstown Public Library on Wick Avenue honors the history of its community with an expansion surmounting $25 million. The Beeghly Fellows internship program gives YSU students hands-on experience the classroom can't provide. YSU for Recovery offers a safe virtual sanctuary for student struggling with addiction to casually engage with people who can help. YSU electrical engineering students are provided job training opportunities in a multimillion dollar program from the U.S. Air Force. Members of YSU reflected on the recent election and how a seemingly divided country can unite. YSU's Alumni Engagements hold virtual alumni lectures at least twice a month, providing alums the opportunity to talk about their journey in their career paths and fields. In an effort to combat climate change, YSU's Legacy Forest student group planted a tree for every incoming freshman. YSU students and faculty share international holiday traditions. Thanksgiving amid the coronavirus is given. Independent video game developer Thomas Kildren incorporates the art of his son, who is on the autism spectrum, created into the video game he's developing, called "Booper, Get Home!" Student-run organizations go virtual. Suzanne Diamond, English professor, is featured. This semester, YSU Athletics partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mahoning Valley and the Youngstown Community Initiative to Reduce Violence through a mentorship program. A Q&A with Jambar alumna Chelsea Powell is given. Austintown's Farmers' Market offers a virtual Christmas market highlighting small businesses and shops in the Mahoning Valley.
