dc.description.abstract This thesis is a study of the basic theory of fiber optics communication. The main components in an optical fiber communication link are considered. An introduction of the theory which describes the way each of the components utilizes light signals is presented. The large information carrying capacity of fiber optics links is discussed as one of the most important advantages of fiber optics links over metallic links. Finally, a simple point-to-point optical link was designed as a direct application of the theory. en_US
