March 03, 2022 : Board of Trustees Regular Meeting Minutes

Abstract

Presented are the minutes of the YSU Board of Trustees from March 03, 2022. This was a regular meeting. President Tressel acknowledged the ongoing conflict in the Ukraine. Presentations were given by the following: Adam Earnheardt (professor, Communication), Beck Holko (senior, Communication), Jordan Records and Ryan Flemming (Penguin Productions), Brian Shrum (head Soccer coach) and Julia Csernyik (sophomore, Criminal Justice and Political Science). The Board resolved to: modify the Textbook Selection policy; modify the Admission, Retention, and Graduation Standards policy, modify the Research Misconduct policy; authorize conferral of Honorary Degree to William Kennedy, accept WYSU memberships; modify Contract Compliance and Administration policy, modify and retitle the Electronic Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Policy; approve changes to Tuition and Fees for the 2022-23 Academic and Fiscal year; approve Interfund Transfers; ratify Personnel Actions; modify Drug-Free Environment policy; modify and retitle the Administrative Complaint Process-Professional/Administration Staff not Covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement policy; modify and retitle Employee Files policy; modify Employee Assistant Program policy; amend and restate the Youngstown State University Alternative Retirement Plan; ratify the Fraternal Order of Police, Ohio Labor Council, Inc., Collective Bargaining Agreement; regarding Terms and conditions for Classified Law Enforcement Employees Excluded from Collective Bargaining; ratify Personnel Actions - Faculty and P/A Staff; approve the Multi-yar Appointment of the Dean of the Williamson College of Business Administration with Rank and Tenure; and to amend the Bylaws of the Board of Trustees of Youngstown State University. President Tressel recognized the following passings: Lyn Deyermond Hemminger (retired professor, Health and Physical Education); Mary McFadden (mother of Paul McFadden); Domenico Aliberti (retired professor, Foreign Languages); Gus Mavrigian (professor and acting chair, Mathematics); Gary Housteau (sports columnist, photographer and creator of The Valley's Playbook); Julie Lawrence-Manley (alum and former staff employee); Patrician Anne Cooper (mother of Chet Copper); Paul R. Brown (president emeritus, Zane State College); Balakrishnan Subramanian (retired professor, Mathematics and Computer Science); Richard Shale (retired professor, English); Betty Brown Jagnow (publisher The Vindicator; president WFMJ-TV); Joseph Nudo (alum and football coach); David Lee Tressel (brother of Jim Tressel); Warren Young (retired professor and chair, Physics and Astronomy, founder of Ward Beecher Planetarium) and Frank Besta (employee, Network Services). In closing, Board Chair Jakubek indicated difficult decisions have been and will continue to need to be made to achieve the sustainability objective and that the board has confidence in the leadership team to help chart that course. And he said he’s hopeful that COVID-19 is fading.
