A train derailed and caught fire in East Palestine on Feb. 3 and underwent a controlled release of the chemicals inside. A two-time graduate of YSU - and former member of the Ursuline Sisters - Helen K. Lafferty officially started her tenure as YSU interim president Feb. 1. The Ohio State Controlling Board recently allocated $178,800 to YSU for the Building Envelope Renovations Project. YSU students struggling with academic and mental-health difficulties have resources on campus with Student Counseling Services and the Resch Center for Student Success to utilize for relief. Renovations are underway in Beeghly Center to update locker rooms, expand the athletic training room and establish an academic center. Greek Life organizations are sharing what it means to be a part of YSU's Greek Life. Some students still have not received their parking permits. Sarah Drabison, an education major in the master's program, offers a variety of handmade items through her business, A Smidgen of Everything. Sweet Memories Vintage Tee's, is a new vintage candy shop opening Feb. 10. YSU's Pep Band is gearing up for its annual Jam the Gym on Feb. 11 and 18. The Rust Belt Theater Company is showing "Dating Sucks: The Musical!" A reprint of a 1973 Jambar article features Maya Angelou and Nikki Giovanni speaking in Youngstown for Black History Week. The YSU men and women's tennis team picked up victories en route to an action-packed three-day endeavor, Feb. 3-5. The YSU women's bowling team finished seventh at the three-day Prairie View A&M Invitational. The men's basketball team win against Wright State University in triple overtime. The YSU women's basketball team dropped two hard-fought games against Horizon League opponents, Purdue University Fort Wayne and Cleveland State University. |
